Gazing across the void

Artist: Ray Monde

Media: Ghostworked Collage on Birch Board

Description: Since moving to the Pacific Northwest, I have been inspired and humbled by the landscape. Knowing that at any time the beauty around us could be dramatically altered by volcanic activity, it makes me reconsider our place here and what we do with the time we are given. This work is loosely based on traditional Chinese landscapes that seek to evoke a feeling rather than a direct representation of place. The piece is created using ghostworking where magazine pages are overpainted so the texture and images ghost through the paint adding depth and complexity to the work.
