Dreaming of immortality

Artist: Ray Monde

Media: Ghostworked Collage on Birch Board

Description: Would we live our lives differently if we lived for 500 years, as long as the Whitebark Pine? The landscape of the Pacific Northwest stretches my sense of time, inspiring me to think about fleeting moments of joy as the foundation of a long and happy life. This work is loosely based on traditional Chinese landscapes that seek to evoke a feeling rather than a direct representation of place. The piece is created using ghostworking where magazine pages are overpainted so the texture and images ghost through the paint adding depth and complexity to the work.
